Sorry this is late I've been trying to recuperate from being
responsible for 48 swimmers for 8 days/17 hours per day.
Here’s the scoop:
Our Fins swimmers had a tremendous meet at the
Southern Zone Championship in Orlando. Our two captains,
Brittany Alexander and Walter
Loop, were voted by the ZONE TEAM to be their
captains.
Brittany and Walter led the
Louisiana delegation to win the Sportsmanship Award. The
Sportsmanship Award is an award that is most coveted for the meet
and it is extremely hard to obtain.
Thank you my captains, Brittany and Walter, for making my last
trip as zone head coach a memorable one.
Now to the swims:
Philip Gallego was 4th in the 50 free, 8th in
the 100 free, 3rd in 200 Medley Relay and 1st in
the 200 Free Relay (which broke a 7 year record) Philip contributed
alot on these relays, his splits were outstanding. I will never
forget the tall skinny 11year old in my beginner lessons 6 years
ago. He was at least 2 feet taller than the 3 other 4 year
olds in the class and yes, He kicked their butts! Philip has
been kicking butt ever since. However, I am certain the best
is yet to come. Good luck to you in college. I’ll
be watching.
Walter Loop (TEAM CAPTAIN) was
1st in the 100 Breast, 2nd in the 200 breast, and
3rd in the 200 Medley Relay. Walter has arrived! Thats all I
have to say...
Brittany Alexander (TEAM CAPTAIN) swam a
personal best in the 50 free and was 11th in the 100 free. I
have to admit I shed a tear after her last swim (her 50).
Brittany has been one of the most influential swimmers I have ever
coached. Thanks Brittany for all you’ve done in putting
FINS on the the right track. We will miss you.
Jonna Frantz was 4th in the 50 free and 11th in
the 100 free. Overall, Jonna had a great meet. She is
getting the feel of National Competition. Jonna’s
time in the 50 qualified her for the Winter Junior
Nationals. The meet is in December and will be
in Ohio. So Jonna, get your snow boots ready!
At the young age of 14, Jonna is right on target!
Haley Goertz Is one of our "newer" members on
the team. Haley is one of the tougher members of the team she
swam a full slate of events at this meet. Her events were
some of the hardest events of the meet. She competed in the
800 free, 400 free, 400 IM, 200 free, 200 back, and 100 back.
Haley posted a nine second drop in the 800 and was right on her
times in her other events. Haley has the perfect
attitude and work ethic to become a champion swimmer.
